Radio Relay

I have a 1984 944. I overloaded the cigarette lighter circuit and now the radio, cigarette lighter, etc do not work. Fuse 7 is ok. I suspect it maybe the the radio relay. Where is the relay located and what is the OEM part number? Thanks for your help.

This would be fuse 7 in the lower fuse panel. Not much else to go wrong. A bad relay would not affect the cigarette lighter.

If the fuse looks good, check for voltage on both sides of it. It will be present even with the key out. If voltage is on both sides, make an appointment with your chiropractor, and remove the radio/sunroof relay from under the dash. It's behind the rounded triangular filler panel. Check for voltage on terminal 30 of the connector. It likely isn't there since both your radio and your lighter do not work. If this is the case, the slightly thicker red with white stripe wire is burned up somewhere between this connector and the fuse, likely right at one of the end connections.

Why is there a relay in the radio circuit to begin with?

Powers the radio on when you insert the key (or acc position in newer car.)

it also gives power to the sunroof so you can close the roof with the key out.

Too funny. I just googled for an early dash photo I could annotate, and that was the perfect choice.

If Steve doesn't need it, I'd be interested in it. I have the auto-roof-lock function "hotwired" in mine since that part of it wasn't working.
