OPRV, Epilog...

As some of you have read in my previous posts I have struggled with high oil pressure after resealing the oil cooler last winter. This led to rebuilding the OPRV and multiple attempts to align/realign the OPRV using the 9215 tool and the OPRV itself, including completely removing the oil cooler and starting over again. It was a journey.
My conclusions are as follows:
You cannot align the OPRV (944 107 035 11) without the 9215 tool. Some say they have been successful but it didn't work for me.
The first 9215 tool that Pelican sent me was machined too small on two diameters and was never going to work. The replacement that they sent measured considerably larger and worked properly. The big diameter is .706" and the smaller diameter is .665"
When rebuilding OPRV 944 107 035 11 the internal o-ring is inserted into the female portion and the shaft is pressed in. It will not work the other way around, the o-ring just rolls up and tears.
My high pressure is still there. I am running about 1 bar above where it used to run and it will peg with high rpm's. I have checked the dash gauge against a mechanical test guage and it is accurate ( a 1.5 x 18 oil drain plug available everywhere fits the pressure sender port and can be drilled and tapped to take a pressure gauge).
I added Seafoam to the oil and flushed with no improvement.

I don't know why my oil pressure is still high. I am going to assume the OPRV will function properly to keep pressures low enough so the oil filter gasket doesn't blow. I don't know if oil flow is reduced or adequate, I don't know how to tell. I am just going to drive ths car and enjoy it. I'm done....
This car keeps me humble.

Jon

JonA,

Where does the gauge read when at idle? My 84 goes all the way when I'm running her over 2k RPM, with the exception during a long run on a hot day, then she's read 4-5.

Dumb question, have you tested/replaced the oil pressure sending unit? BTW, we live pretty close so PM if you want a 2nd opinion...

The readings at the dash matched the readings with my test gauge so what I'm seeing is accurate. At 1100 rpm (idle is a little high) I'm at 4.5 bar. Last year it was 3.5 bar. Can't explain it. Not gonna worry.

Pfarah, yes we are close. If you need any tools or assistance just yell.
Pictures you posted are inspirational.

I'd definitely use the alignment tool.
