Question Wheel balancing

I'm told that with the phone dial wheels (and perhaps others) that the only way to
balance them is with a double-sided tape weight, rather than attaching it to the bead. I ask because I have to have mine re-balanced about every 6 to 8 weeks due to them falling off. It's getting to be a PITA
Any thoughts?

I have them balanced this way and only have the weights put on the inside. Maybe you need to pull the wheels off and degrease and clean the inside then have them balanced.

Yes, clean them well, ask the mech to wipe down the spot where the weight is placed with brake cleaner. One trick i noticed after I had gotten my wheels balanced was that the mech. had put duct tape over the weights. Tape stayed til the next balancing. I would use Gorilla tape (love that stuff).
The rotation of the wheel should, in perfect theory, keep the weight tight against the wheel, but there are always outside factors.

I, unfortunately had the misfortune of having the tape weights put on my cookie cutters. The fools at the shop put them on the outside of my rims. The PO also did the same. I didn't know better back then so I just lived with it. They look like crap! After much labor, I got the residue from the PO's mistake off as well as some of the clear coat. Please don't let your shop take the easy way out! Also, there is a post here on Pelican that a guy is using an injectable liquid weight system - pretty interesting.

Definitely clean wheels before sticking weights on....
Then once weights are stuck on, seal the edges of the weights with a good silicone caulk.
You want the silicone to seal the edges so the tape is protected.
When I've done it this way I have never lost a weight.

Yes! Over time water gets into the tape and corrodes it away. The silicone keeps it from degrading and your weights stay on longer.
