Best way to install the outside lower window seals?
 

I finally got around to replacing my old, cracked lower window seals on my car last weekend. The old ones came out reasonably easy with a pair of pliers, pulling them up out of their spring clips.

When I tried to install the new ones however, I cannot seem to get them to hook into the clips and the little metal channel that the old ones fit in.

I tried using liquid soap to help persuade things, but still can't get things to fit right.

Who has tried this, and if you were successful, what is the best way to do it?

This is for the late model cars, if there is a difference.

I just did mine last weekend. Just like you, I was able to pull them out with ease. Putting them back in was just about as easy. I searched around and someone mentioned using a small piece of 2x4 wood block to use to pound them in. Pound may be too strong of a word; probably more like tapping them in. Anyways, I was going to do the same however, I didn't want to risk marring the new rubber so I used a hockey puck with a rubber mallet and it worked very well to help seal the scraper into the clips and also to conform to the trim molding.

Can you send me a link to the part numbers for the window sill seals?

This is for 85/2 and up cars, which should fit your '88 951.

Yes, a 2 X 4, or something like that. Use a rag for cushioning. A mallet will be good. The length of the wood has to position the striking surface so it's away from the side mirror. I wrote about this somewhere, one day, here - I'm sure others have too. It's been a while though, ...

Wondering if soap was chosen instead of a silicone grease for any reason? Dries up? Isopropyl alcohol might help too, and really will disappear.
