Front wheel bearing seal

Is stuck in the hub.

I pried the rubber part out & found a little circular spring in there.

Any suggestions on how to get the seal out, and am I right in assuming that circular spring is already inside my new seal?

For the record I have pried on it to no avail, it seems to be rusted in.

Thanks,

GHEN

Yup the spring is in the seal (well it rides on the lip)

Hey, let's resurrect this post from 2005...can anyone instruct me on which side of the inner bearing seal goes in/out? On my new ones, which look different from the all-rubber ones I removed, one side has a gold-ish color on it and a rubber flange even with the outer surface. Other side is all silver and has a seam between two metal surfaces.

Figured it out with the help of an old Reenlist post by chris993 (thanks Chris!). The gold colored surface with the "lip" just inside it faces away from the bearing. The silver surface faces towards the bearing.

Good job figuring it out yourself.

A good technique for working on wheels and hubs is to dismantle only one side at a time, you can always use the other side as a reference in case you don't remember how things go together.

Another good technique is to take digital photos as you disassemble things, and use those to help reassemble.
