Oil pan drain issue

So yet again I'm faced with fixing the Po's mess. They stripped the oil drain bolt. Was quite a surprise as I'm laying there contorted under the car filter off slip the socket on and nope. The head is basically round. So I tried to go down a size and it's in between sizes Beth metric and standard. Tried pliers and vice grips. And a couple damaged bolt outs. Iv made the problem worse by my attempts. Does anyone have any suggestions to get that sucker out? I'll try just about anything. I read somewhere it's m20x1.5 but I don't know the length to try and source a new one local. And really don't want to buy a new oil pan. Seems like a waste over a simple bolt.

Vice grips? Source for new one would include our sponsor.

And if you arent able to weld, you can saw off two sides and then use a wrench. or saw down the middle and use a screwdriver, but i'm guessing the bolt is too tight to remove using a screwdriver.

I can't believe you couldn't get it with a large vice grips. Try tapping on it with a hammer to loosen it, then grab it with a large vice grips. If he vice grips slip, tighten them more, and repeat...

The more I tighten the more bolt material shreds off. I swear if I get that thing out I'm gonna do some major modifications. I will attempt with sone larger vice grips iv been using medium as I haven't dug into the tool.box yet. I shot some penetrate at it to soak overnight try again before the weekends up. Regardless I'll be welding a nut on once off so IL be able to get it back in

Tap on the end of it with a hammer to help dislodge it, and then go with the larger vice grips.

If it comes out don't even bother with welding, just get a new plug. And don't overtighten it...

Take a flat file and shape it to the minimum dimensions of a 6 point. Slow steady pressure won't do...a handheld impact after you get it to 14mm...or 13mm depending on how bad it has been cobbled.

Drill it and hammer in an easy-out. these work AWESOME. This method worked for a seized cam bolt for me, which is saying a lot I think.

If it comes down to it, PM me and I will send you an early oil pan for the cost of shipping.

A thin pipe wrench with good teeth may also do the trick...

I had to step away from the fill plug on my tranny a few times.

Good luck.

Just grind off opposite sides of the head to provide a flat surface each side then use vice grips or a shifter to remove.

Removing and replacing the oilman is a much bigger job than you realise. You have to drop the front cross member with all that entails.

I've had great success with the Irwin Bolt Grip sockets. Use one that's slightly undersized and hammer it in. I've removed completely rounded and rusted-on nuts that require a 2-ft breaker-bar with 2-ft extension pipe.

The pipe wrench suggestion is a good one, or any other kind of tool that actually grips harder as you pull.
Hopefully you wont have stripped threads. When I went to drain the transaxle on my 6 speed, the car that "needed nothing" (po's words) it turned out the threads were stripped on the fill plug. Had to not only buy a very expensive tap, had to flush it. I also had to find a new plug. I had to resort to Jason at Paragon, who must have called in a favor from somewhere, as no dealer or parts house had one.
