Vented Gas Cap for Early 944

I have an excessive pressure/vacuum in my gas tank. I don't have any canister filter in my engine bay. I don't know if it original came like this or the PO modified it. My fuel line goes straight from fuel pump to fuel rail. I heard that there is another vent in the filler neck area, but I guess it is clogged.

I don't want to drill my NON-VENTED cap. I think the VENTED gas cab is the easy fix to my problem.

Can anyone give me the link to the VENTED gas cap that has the same thread and will fit my early 944 please. Preferable of Pelicanparts website.

Also I heard that VW Golf MK1 VENTED cap will fit. Can anyone give me the part number please.

Thank you for your help.

I just used a cheap replacement and removed the valve. The pressure build up in the tank of my 87 16V VW Scirocco would make a hell of whoosh when you opened the gas cap. My 84 944 did too, so I knew the tank wasn't cracked and I vented it to keep it from cracking

Vented Gas Cap for Early 944

My car doesn't have the charcoal canister.

It's RHD '82 944 in Thailand and gas vapor is not on the emission control here.

After 15 minutes drive, my fuel pump always get really loud and the car hesitate at all rpm. Tried changing fuel pumps, FPR, and FPD, and cleaning injectors with no success. Until one day I found out that my fuel tank has a lot of vacuum, so I run the car with gas cap not screwed all the way in and all problem is solved.

Now my car run with the rubber o-ring off the gas cap, but it's not safe in case of accident. I really need the vented type gas cap to fix this problem.

Please help.

810 201 186 A is the bleedeer valve, sometimes called the two way valve that controls pressure in the tank. It is common to VW and Audi and is known for allowing too much pressure to build up in the tank. Some have removed this valve (not recommended) and some have used valves from other cars.

Gas fumes? Tank leaks? Read this.

It's unsettling how much pressure these valves allow. But at least you know your tank isn't cracked!

True. Someone used a Mitsubishi valve with success, but I was never able to find that part. I modified a 1970s Mercedes valve, and it works well as a replacement.

Vented Gas Cap for Early 944

Thank you for all replies about the valve. I'll definitely change the valve when I have time to remove the interior trims and get into the filler neck.

Meanwhile a vented gas cap is an easier and safe fix for me. Just need to know which one is compatible to an early 944 please.

Stant # 10817 seem to be the vented cap that I'm looking for base on these information;

FYI: Vented Gas Cap Part #

Random Thoughts, kaidouza70: Got my Stant 10817 vented fuel cap...

According to Stant's website, the cap # 10817 fits our 944. It's only 7 bucks, so I'll give it a try. Will keep you guys updated, when I tested it out.
