Lightbulb What it takes to Turbo charge a 944

Hi all. Here is a copy of an advert that ran in America, when the 951 came out. It takes a lot more than just a Turbo charger and an Intercooler, to Turbo charge a Porsche 944.

obviously he's referring to the recent postings concerning supercharging & turboing n/a 944's. his point is well taken.

A few questions come to mind.

Does the turbo use a different torque tube?
Why do they show the control arms? If the NA in 86 used the same?
No rods in the pic even though we know they are different?

I guess I am just being picky

Answers to your questions:

The turbo does use a different torque tube.
The turbo control arms were specific to the turbo, in 1985 when the model was introduced to the european market. Later in 86 the control arms became standard for all 944s.
Actuall the rods remained the same (well, if you want to get into it, early 84 and earlier 944s share the same rods as the 1986 model 944 turbo, but no other years), but the pistons were different, however since they're inside the engine you can't see them from this shot.

This is obviously not a complete list of things that were different, there's MANY more. The torsion bar housing in the rear wasn't different between the two cars, if you want to get picky forexample

I don't believe the torque tube is different, I think it is there just to hold up the display.

I have a 951S tranny on my non-turbo torque tube.

The 944 turbo torque tube has a larger diameter shaft inside. They should all bolt up though. The 951S has differences from the 951 as well...
