And it's 1,,,,2,,,,3,,,,,,4 strikes ur out!!!

I had no idea how hot this market was for 944's in nice shape. One I got outbid, one wouldn't pass CA smog, one sold very quickly, and one (owned by a fellow Pelicanite) was sold out from underneath me after I agreed to his price and was trying to arrange a date and time to do the deal. This is some cut throat business for 944's. Guess I need to settle in for a long ordeal and be ready to jump even faster. I had no idea, but I do now!!

Competition beware!!!!

Couldn't get the link to work, but went over to their forum, and didn't see anything I want. Guess I should have said, 85.5 or newer, AC is a must, and after me and the better half discussed it, we don't want black, red, and probably not white. Love the silver, slate gray, and titanium/champagne (or what ever it's called). We want NA, and a base is fine although an 'S' would be nicer, I don't want a turbo. As body and paint, as well as interior, can be more costly than motor or tranny work, those are my priorities. As mentioned, gotta settle in. I think it's gonna be a long ride. But, thanx for the heads up.

There's something in the air...

It's been a few years since the 944's value bottoming out. I watch the market and there's been a steady increase in values over about 3 years. Only now people are being surprised!!

I urge you to hunt on...values are only going up up up up up (repeating)

Buy the car on condition ,not colour. This is an old car, not too plentiful, so good luck holding out for a good one in only 3 of the colours made. And remember, in the used car market, if you snooze you lose.

I hear you. Always had more headaches buying cars than selling them. Good luck...As always, patience pays off.

For cold air intake on that CL car, read hot air intake. Will need an original airbox with intake tube plus a J boot and an ITG or Pipercross air filter

The stock intake that Porsche designed for these cars is a cold air intake. I've always been a proponent of keeping the basic system but putting a K&N cartridge filter in the box. Best of both worlds. Anything else is just for looks and not function.

Hang in there Westy....

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

While doing his dyno testing of the MAF kit, Rogue_Ant tried the stock paper filter vs the K&N filter vs no filter at all and there was no difference either way.

K&N filter on an NA = lightens your wallet only

and from some recent threads I have seen, the K&N will let a lot of small dust to get past and into the engine. over time can cause damage.

I am switching both of my cars back to paper air filters, as my 951 has only modest mods, ~ 300hp, and my 911 NA has been returned to street duty only.

now if you are building a 400+ hp 951 turbo race car, you may reach a point where the K&N flow becomes necessary.

I am just getting into the rebuild of my 930. building to take to DE/track and street. even there, will probably retain the paper filter, although I was told the modified build on this engine dyno'ed at 400+hp.

YMMV

I have no data to quantify this, but maybe since the meteoric rise in air cooled prices, these cars are taking their place as a way for 'common' folks to own a Porsche.

Re: shopping based on color.......there are still thousand of these cars in the states. Since this is the last car I'll probably buy as a toy, I wont buy a car that doesn't fulfill our requirements, and we wont buy something that immediately needs to go up on blocks to make it right. As I've told many folks over the years who were admiring my SC, owning a Porsche is relatively cheap. Fixing them will drain the wallet.

Hagerty has a tool that provides vehicle values. Across the board, the value of older Porsches has been going up.
https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch

I ran it for my car and it came back with this

Sigh, mine is Condition 3.

Here in Colorado, it looks like many 944 NA and a few 951s languished this summer.

There were several that looked really tempting, but, I already bought one that has been eating up my time and money.

Almost all have been red or white. I love metallic gray variants, but they are hard to come by.

pdxfj - Thanx for the heads up. Saw the one in Seattle,,,,interior looks maybe a little ratty. The one in Bend looks pretty nice, but it's a dealer, and he doesn't share enuff info including the price (which I'm sure is heavily inflated!) Folks that want you to call to get the price can go kiss something or other.

Also, I guess I should make clear, CA doesn't want these older cars in the state. That's why they've increased the smog standards. CARB is a government agency that can do as they want, almost unregulated. This is why I lean heavily on CA cars, as it's the sellers responsibility to smog the vehicle prior to sale. I would kick my own arse if I bought a car, shipped it out here, then found out it wouldn't pass smog! Doop!!!

It used to be a 30 year rolling exemption. Then CARB stepped in. Now it's only '74 and older. CATS, Lawn Mowers, dirt bikes, all have to meet CA (CARB) standards. I hate this place soooooo much, but that's a whole 'nuther thread!!!!

See, if I wanted to tinker, I'd drive the 2 1/2 hours and buy this car. Even if it didn't work out, it's a $1k parts car with nice rims and tires.
