944 Won't Turn Over

So I have an 83 944 that as the title says, won't turn over. I drove the car, went to the local car wash and manually washed the vehicle. I then drove the car home and went to start it later (maybe 4 hours) and all I got was a humming noise from the fuel pump. No noise or movement from the starter or solenoid.

Ordered a new starter from Napa and after 3 days, received it and installed it. Go to start the car and still have nothing from the starter. Although the starter did not look like the one I took off, I thought that it was a basic connection. My original solenoid had 3 bolt terminals, 2 larger studs for the larger wires, and then 1 smaller stud for the "trigger". And then obviously the terminal that attaches to the starter. My new starter has two stud terminals and 2 spade connectors. One of the stud terminals goes to the starter motor and the other I attached the 2 large wires. I then cut and crimped a female spade connector to attach to the bottom spade connector on the solenoid, leaving the top spade connector empty.

Needless to say I have no idea what is wrong. I have not tested the starter or put a multi-meter up to the cables to see if I have power but is there something obvious I'm missing? I checked the ignition switch but everything checked out, and I also swapped that out probably a year ago when the switch officially went.

Just looking for some help, and thanks ahead of time obviously.

You may want to inspect/replace your ignition switch. It's actually an easy job.

Did you check your battery connections and the battery ground on the top of the bell housing?

+1 on the ignition switch. Cheap, easy to replace, and a required maintenance item due to bad design and materials.
