85.5 944 which is speed sensor and which is reference sensor

Hello all,

Now I am trying to finish a project started three years ago.... 944 clutch replacement. Currently everything major thing is in place i have to put the two sensors back on.... I am wondering which one goes to the front and which go to the back... Last time i took them off was three years ago....

I know one is speed sensor and the other is refrence sensor, however it seems the two sensors look the same...

The wires at the connection should be marked DG or BG
The DG or BG should be wrapped around the wires>

The sensors (pulse sensors) are identical per OEM Porsche PET

the speed sensor is closer to the transmission and the reference sensor is closer to the engine, if that adds any help to what John_AZ says.

The speed sensor is counting teeth on the ring gear, which is mounted on the pressure plate, and the reference sensor is looking for the set screw on the flywheel.

Thanks for the info. I also could not remember where they went. I thought it didn't matter if they got crossed. I wonder if the motor will run if they are.

The speed sensor is nearest the firewall and if the connectors on the bracket at the back of the intake manifold haven't been moved, the bottom one is the Speed sensor. Clarks Garage has a write-up on this.
