O2 sensor wiring - I seek the Truth...
 

'84 944 NA 1 wire O2 sensor wiring. The orange connector at the firewall for the O2 sensor has disintegrated, along with the reference sensor plug connectors. Question is, can I simply splice in a piece of new wire and use spade connectors on the O2 wiring without any ill effects? Also, does anyone have two good male end reference sensor connectors/wiring they are willing to part with? Electro tape looks really crappy. Thanks for all your help! Please keep in touch - it's getting cold here in Misery (Missouri - LOL).

Yes you can just splice in new connectors no problem. Someone will probably come along saying you should solder the connection.

If you go to an auto electric supply shop you can find "quick connect" insulated pin connectors like a trailer light plug with only 2 pins, that's what I have on mine.

Thanks v2. Since I couldn't unplug the O2 connector without further destruction, I just electro taped that lil' bugger and put it back in the bracket. Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it! Now onto those darn reference sensor connectors. I just hope I have enough tape. Gotta get me some of those connectors.

Yes, this is called the galvanic effect and is the basis of how
thermocouples are made. Dissimilar metals have a contact potential that
varies with temperature. If the solder is between the two wires, any small
temperature difference will create a voltage across the joint, hence giving

On mine there was a 1-pin GM weatherpack connector, no problem.
