Parking brake repair (without 30 posts !)
I managed to fix something on the car without having to ask 20 - 30 questions!!! Got the parking park to engage/disengage. Pulled out drivers seat and removed brake assy. The rachet part had spun around backwards and wouldn't engage on the teeth. The pain was getting the push rod back in correctly to disengage the ratchet when the button is depressed. Got it all cleaned up and put a little axle grease on the moving parts (kinda worried about picking up grit there by the door though) replaced and all is working...
One more thing to fix to pass inspection, the horn. I've done several searches here and on the web and can't seem to come up with too much. Gonna check the relay,(is that a Porsche dealer item?) fuse looks OK. Buttons on steering wheel seem OK, I can hear what I think is a relay activating, not sure. Could just be the horn buttons themselves clicking. But my big goofy question is,,,,,WHERE ARE THE HORNS? ? ? Not having it up on ramps yet to get underneath or my Haynes manual (only have the shop manual on CD) I can't seem to be able to see much of whats what. Any help appreciated,,, along with any chidding about not knowing this. For all I know the PO took them off, Like the washer reservoir!!! James

Locate the driver's side front tyre. Lay on your back and stick your head in front of said tyre so that if it move forward the tyre would squash your head like a pumpkin. Move your eyes to the right and you'll see the horns. There's two of 'em (for that classy dual tone the says "Please get the Frik out of my way!". I'd try the relay, that's what worked for mine.

When I got my car the horn didn't work either. IT was a pretty simple fix though. The contacts behind the steering wheel pad had become a little dirty, so I just took the pad off, cleaned the contacts and it worked fine. May not be your problem, but it is worth a try because it is so simple.

Screaming out the window works sometimes... so does giving a sunday driver "The Finger" as you pass by.. also, doing both of those in conjunction as you pass by.. that is effective also..

I have found the finger trick to be most effective when used WITH a long blast from the horn.
But still not as much fun as hearing their brakes lock up as you tap yours after getting around them. (Only tap enough to turn the brake lights on). |

Agreed Roadman,
It's even better (if possible) when (picture this).. your driving and you come up on a car.. a blue K-car or a blue Taurus.. and it's crawling.. really ****** crawling. You start freaking the "F" out Honking!, Cursing! and beating up your interior! THEN! you find a good spot to pass, lean on your horn and look over to give the meanest mad-dog glare of your life while holding your middle finger out the sunroof...and you see... NUNS!..penguins....muhaahaahaaha!!!....you slam the stereo on crank it up and it's OZZY with primus.. ..... It just doesn't get any better..trust me. Happy THanksgiving, Frank B
