Rusted Fuel Pipes
Hey guys, new to the forums although I've been reading for awhile. I've an 1988 944 S 2.5 16v and I'm in the process of restoring it to its former glory, as its been neglected from its previous owners. I decided to change all the rubber fuel pipes on the car as its better to be safe than sorry. I ran into serious issues with one rubber pipe that wont budge open, its like its fused together with the hard line. The pipe in question is the one that connects to the fuel filter from the hard line. I've been soaking it in penetrating oil for two weeks now and still nothing. The only thing I managed to budge was the skin on my knuckles

First off use 2 flared tubing wrenches on each side. Position one against the floorpan and the other about 30 degrees below. IF you cant budge 2nd wrench by hand try a small hydraulic jack under it to break it free. Once it breaks free it should be a piece of cake.

mix a small batch of 50% acetone and 50% type A or F ATF.
it is wise to use flare type wrenches on the soft fuel line metal. place both wrenches a few degrees apart the squeeze them with your hand or another set of pliers. |
