Removing fuel sending unit 968 Cab
 

Folks:
My gas gauge is not working on my 95 968 Cab, so I decided to remove the fuel sending unit. I read on several posts on how to do it---remove carpet, disconnect wiring connector, loosen fuel hose clamps and remove hoses and unscrew the large plastic ring. All that took but a few minutes. When I try lift the unit out of the tank, it will only go up about 1/2 inch and then it seems it is stuck on something. I am hesitate to pull too hard for fear that I will break something in the tank.

What gives? What is holding it in? Is there a trick to this that I don't get?
