Transaxle overhaul

Guys,
1990 944 S2, mileage at 159k. While on a spirited drive in Ozark mountains, my Transmisson became very "stiff" (while shifting) and would not down shift. After I pulled over, I could barely shift into 1st. After starting to move, all shifts were very stiff-except 5th. I was able to drive back to lodge, all shifts were shift & clanking noises as each gear engaged. After vehicle "cooled off", shifting became normal. After every shift & clutch release-clanking noise - on gear(2nd & 3rd). Car shifted & drove (normally?) with shifter "vibrating" (occasionally ) around 70 mph? Sounds like complete transaxle overhaul + clutch replacement? Your thoughts.
Terry

It could be something as simple as bleeding the clutch. It sounds like the clutch is partially engaged when you're trying to shift.

Check the linkage, sounds like something is binding up perhaps when the car is warm. Start at the shift lever in the cabin, work your way back. I doubt it's inside the gearbox.

After investigating, it appears part of the "rubber center" clutch disc broke off and jammed shifter. Replacing all;
Kevin you were correct, the gear box appears - good.
