Fuel Pump/DME relay

Hello fellow a Porsche people,

Hoping for some advice this morning. I have an 85.1 944 which we autocross and may start chump racing next year. I have pretty much sorted out the car and it runs very well, however, I am popping DME relays very frequently. When I pull them, they are very hot. I wondering if you guys think that the fuel tank screen may be clogged. I don't seem to have a mixture issue and the engine runs cool. Anyone have some ideas?
Thanks
Todd

Jumper the relay through an ammeter, a decent analog one that can handle at least 10a.

You could check your fuel pressure also- I think jfrahm is right, the pump is probably overamping- verify that the fuse for the fuel pump isnt oversized.

Its also possible that the coil may have a poor ground- causing interminent de-tinting of the relay.
