Wtb 944...

I'm looking for a relieble good running 928 or 944. THe kicker, I don't want to spend more than $1500 US. Looks are unimportant, reliability is what I'm after. So if any one knows of one for sale in my price range, send me an e-mail: makaio@pelicanbbs.com

Thanks,

I understand you are lowballing, but $1500 is VERY cheap for a RELIABLE running 944. Good condition inside and out should grab $4500+ - $7000 (depending on year and/or mileage). A 944 that runs well but is in cosmetic disrepair should fetch at least $2500... unless the car is practically falling apart. If you find a 928 for that price, I GUARANTEE you that it will need $2000 worth of work done by the end of a year.

Perhaps a 924 would better suit your price range? I have seen nice ones for that price.

I am asking $3000, she has been very reliable, has some scratches and dings but looks good from about ten feet. Has a few obligatory dash cracks and driver seat seam pulling apart. It is not a show car but not embarrassing to be seen in either.
IMHO you be hard pressed to find a good running 944 for $1500, people are getting $500 - $1000 for cars with blown engines. And I don't mean supercharged.
Take a peek at ebay to get an idea whats available.

Best bet for your money is a 924. For a reliable example you are probably still looking at $2000-$3000.

$1500 ....reliable .....hehehe...

$1500 may get you a clutch job on a 944..........or a set of pistons...........but not a reliable 944......

You need at least $3-5k and expect to spend at least $2k to get her where you want.

Good luck

I apreciate all of your insight. I understand that my price is a low ball, but that is what I'm willing to spend, maybe $2000. I only need it for about 4000-5000 miles, then I will sell it.

I just wanted to let it be known I was looking, in case anyone needed to sell one quick, or knew of a decent runner collecting dust.

cut back on the meds -- unless you find a stupid old lady (and I mean STUPID) whos Porsche fanatic husband just died -- your SOL for that kind of money. A guy I work with bought a decent '87 944 with a blown engine for $800 (basically a parts car). Reliable means well maintained, which means cash, which means the PO won't let it go that cheap.

Maybe a early 924, I hear there is less to break.

Also, there is no such thing as a reliable 928 (and CERTAINLY not for less than $2K).

I bought a 87 944 last December with bad paint and no history for $900. Car looked good but was dirty and had a dead battery. All it needed was(maybe it didn't but no history) belts. I put a battery in and detailed it, looked great, didn't put in new belts, saw profit potential and sold first day listed in May for $3100 cash. I sold it too a guy that had 3 before so he knew what he was getting into. I've seen a few that cheap but I was lucky. So it could be done. Enough said. Anyone want to trade a decent 944 and $3-5k for a nice 96' Jetta?

What you are looking for is maybe a car with a salvage title and at an ( insurance ) auction. But you really dont know what you are getting. You might also try ebay. Good luck

I think it's possible ... I got a 86 944 that was ugly as hell with a bad clutch for $1400 clutch cost me $300 but I did it myself. I traded it out for my first Turbo so I don't know what it would have sold for... they are out there but just have to roll the dice.

I think the old saying applies "You get what you pay for"! Not to sound like a "Richard", but I'd like to have a nice 911 for $5000. I'm like almost everyone else, I have champagne taste on a beer budget!

reliable + 944 + $1500 does not compute.

In fact, any two do not compute.....
