New oil pressure sender

I picked up an FAE oil pressure sender- nothing was wrong with mine, but it looked like it may leak a bit so I dropped one in the shopping cart.

I changed it out today- my oil pressure read 2.5 bar on a cold start, bounced with revs.

I swapped the old one back in and it went up to 4.5 bar on startup and came down as the car warmed up- normal operation.

I am left wondering now- is the oil pressure sender I am using reading high, or is the new one reading low? Seems pretty weird to me.

I bought the same one with the same low pressure reading so I then purchased an oe and all is back to normal.

Thanks Kwikt, I am glad to hear it's probably just a crappy sender. I don't have any reason to doubt my oil pressure is good. I might buy a Lindsey Racing adapter and an analog gauge to verify the pressure though, just going forward.

Unless anyone has information on the contrary, I am going to compare the threaded end of the sender to one VW uses- a VDO oil pressure sender for a VW Beetle is half the cost.

I installed an FAE sender. It was fine for a couple hundred miles and then started to indicate 0 oil pressure. Replaced with OE unit which is VDO and works fine. Hard to believe that a part that simple can't be made cheaper than the VDO and still be reliable but it appears that is the case.

The sender resistance has to be in synch to the gauge. Might be hit or miss...

The threaded section for a VW VDO sender of similar type is much smaller, so it wouldnt work anyway.
