Fiberwerks front end

Does anybody have a copy of the installation instructions for the Fiberwerks Nose that they can shoot over to me in an email?

Kris

I may still have mine, I'll check when I get home Tuesday. You willl need to do quite a bit of fit and finish to get anywhere near a factory fit. I also had to make different additional brackets to pull the rear into place. It's worth the effort. Can't you contact Karl for a copy?

I glassed in the Fiberwerks side light location and reinforced the nose piece w/ some angle aluminum then used E36 M3 side lights in a different location. It made it much stronger and I like the look better.

You doing the rear also? I have rehung my exhaust since this picture was taken to get it right w/ the rear bumper.

Just a little tip on installing the side markers. Use the brackets that hold the rear side lights in place. Use them to hold the light on the wheel well side.

I left a message with Karl several weeks ago, but never got a call back from him. I'm going to modify this part where the front side marker is. I'm going to move it forward to where it's basically in the stock location like the original bumper. I'm then going to make a new mold for it and add it to my composite parts products.

Are you going to do a composite bumper? If so are you doing the old style (like mine) or the newer EVOII look? I personally like the older one much better, especilly for the street. The molded lip on the newer one is way too low for anything close to normal driving. Karl had the lower lip available for the old one as a seperate piece which was nice. The side light placement on the one I have looked pretty bad as it was unfinished by the tire. The end of the light just kind of hung out. Also when I molded in the upper metal I did it w/ bolts in place that line up w/ the three stock holes in the fender to bolt it in place w/o drilling any holes. It works really well. If you have the ability to make composite molds etc, the instructions that came w/ the bumper are not going to give you much advice. Basicly it's fool around until it fits. You just unbolt all the stock stuff, take off the bumper shocks, use the old bolts to hold the bracket in place, mount everything as good as you can, take it off, paint it, put it back on. I had to use different (longer) mounting bolts and galvanized washers to shim things. It looks really close to a factory fit, way better than the GT Racing parts, but certainly offers nothing as far as crash worthiness. I pity the poor person that hits the car. I have almost $20K in mine, all documented w/ receipts and appraised by my insurance company. That does not include the car or labor. If someone hits it at all it will probably total it to the tune of close to $30K. Hopefully if that occurs I won't be the one at fault. I will also be installing a Supercharger setup late spring / early summer. I love the car, I actually sold both of my 911s and bought an M3 and redid the 944. The 944 with the suspension setup and the motor work to date will run rings around anything anywhere near it's pricepoint. The Fiberwerks stuff really looks good on it too, IMHO. If I knew how much I would actually wind up spending I would have picked up a super low mileage 968. My project started when it was time to change the belts. While doing that I just kept taking the car apart. A year later I added it up and was pretty shocked. It is however the cleanest best running 84 I have ever seen. I have only gone to one Porsche club event and it was as a spectator. I came out to the parking lot and there were 10-12 standing around it taking pictures and discussing what it even was. I popped the hood for them and got a pretty weird reaction.

Yup. Lindsey has a lot of cool stuff. The rail w/ the rising rate regulator and damper really works well. You can dial in exact fuel pressure. There is a huge difference when going to bigger injectors to be able to set it exactly. They are not cheap but are extremely well made.

Is there an inner bumper/crush zone piece that will fit behind the nose? Not having anything behind the nose for collision safety is rather risky.

that's the name of the game if you want one of those front ends.

also, I wouldn't make a mold of one of the fiberwerks front ends... one, because it may be stepping on their toes by casting their product and selling the same thing in a different material... two, because the piece isn't perfect to begin with. And I know reproductions aren't nearly as good as the originals.. so you'd have a product at the end that would require even MORE work to fit to the front end of the car...

Fiberwerks no longer sells this part. Their molds were trashed in the last hurricane. On top of that I would be modding the part better than 10%.

I got the last one Karl made before he went w/ the EVOII that has the integral lip spoiler. The EVOII is almost 2" lower and I already have scraped mine, and I am careful. I like the look of the older style better anyway. It's all about personal preferance. There was one like mine for sale on this board not long ago for a great price. You could certainly look it up and contact the guy. I think it was around $450 w/ shipping. It was new, unmounted, and unpainted.

Fiberglass never seems to fit perfect, there always seem to be some fitting required. Plus most 20 year old cars aren't in the perfect condition they once were.

he'd have to mod the fiberglass part to fit before he took the mold...
