Shouldn't Smoke
My tired 87 924S has begun to smoke. It occurs most often at engine speeds over 4500, and under hard acceleration. Is it cheaper to rebuild or to buy a used motor? (a used 2.7L from an 89 would be sweet) Is there anything I can do to make my car smoke less untill I do something with the motor? Thoughts and comments welcome...

You could try that Z-Max stuff you mix in your gas and oil. Ive heard Very good things about it, i also saw a show on it and they demonstrated an engine that had been run with z-max and an engine that had be ran without z-max and they ran the 2 engines without oil. The one that didnt use z-man Fried in about 1 1/2 minutes. The one with Z-max went for over an hour!!!! Then they cut the water lines so there was no cooling and it STILL ran for another 30 minutes until it fried!!!!!! AMAZING!!! My friend used it and he said his car ran like new again, steady idle, quick startup, more power, and probably better gas milage he thinks. Give it a shot, i think it is about 25-30 dollars around here. Let us know how it works if you do decide to use it,

Replace the valve stem seals. Could go another 10 maybe 15 thou. Other wise it's time to replace the valve guides and get a valve grind.
If the compression is good and you maintain an oil change schedule you could get another 50,000 out of it after a valve job.

Aloha,
I moved away from Honolulu in '99. If you need a good shop to work on your car, I recommend http://www.germanautospecialists.com/ It took me 3.5 years to find them and they're the best shop in Hawaii IMHO.
