Before you make your decision and/or spend a bunch of money fixing it, make sure you can get it insured after it is rebuilt. If it indeed ends up "totalled" with a salvage branded title, check with whomever you plan to insure it (or other companies if need be) to be sure they will insure a "reconstructed" title car. A lot of insurance companies won't write a policy on a recon title any more.

I've heard of this before, and It wouldn't be worth the trouble rebuilding if I can't insure it... that's why I'm slowly leaning towards just buying another one if I can find a good clean one or just getting a completely different sports car. Maybe even a 968 if I could find one. But they are few and far in between these days

I'm with you guys on the older Datsun Zs.. Unfortunately not many survive today due to rusting from the inside out. LOVE those 240, 260, 280Z's.. Wasn't too crazy about the ZX's released later in the run. Too squarish...

You can insure it.. I've never had any issues getting mine insured. I dropped full coverage and went with straight liability a few years ago. Here in VA that is the minimum. With book values going up on these cars, I got hit with paying more property tax on my 87 944 than I did on the 2003 Audi A8L because apparently they are now booking (NADA) at around $6300. I told the lady at the courthouse that I'd split the money with her if I could get my insurance company to give me that much for the car if I were to total it again. Fortunately I don't live in NOVA where property taxes are just downright re-effin-diculous. I might go back to full coverage if the book value goes much higher though.

Do you think it's worth rebuilding? ..I mean this is my second wrecked 944 for the same reason. I'll always be a die hard Porsche enthusiast but I'm just kind of curious of other 80's/90's model sports cars too.

"Worth" has a different meaning to different people. I'm of the school that hates to see perfectly repairable things be cut-up and parted out because the cost of "new" parts from the Dealer cost more than the deemed worth of the car. If it were a run of the mill Honda Civic, I might let that one go but not my Porsche. Any Porsche. Especially a literal fender bender like this. If was wadded up, rolled, and didn't have one piece of straight sheet metal on it, I'd THEN part it out just to save others. But that's just me. Like I said, if you have place to stick it and it be safe and out of the weather while you've got it torn down, I'd go for fixing it. It took me several months to fix mine both times. Fortunately I had a place to put it safely inside.

If you have proof the car was repaired (even by a DIY'er) , you should be able to re-insure it and pursue any future claims should it get wrecked again. Talk to your insurance company and make sure you have proof of repair (pictures, receipts for parts, etc) Even if it is not a perfect repair (inner fender or frame rail has been straightened but shows a few creases, paint match not exact, etc) insurance companies should provide coverage.

BTW look for repair parts in the same color and you could have a bolt on repair with little or no additional body work or painting.

One thing that makes me think it is an easy repair is that it was hit above the bumper and there may not be any frame damage. From the looks of it you need a RED door, fender and light assembly. You may need to straighten the inner fender a little. Could be an easy bolt on repair. Do you have pictures of under the hood?

glad you are OK. For a daily driver the turbo is way to complicated and around town its like driving a low compression 944. I would take no less than 7K for your car and then shop for another before they get to scarce. Im telling you that not everyone knows how cool these cars are. you may think you want something else but the time and knowledge you have invested in ownership really makes it easy for you to keep going . Im not trying to sell you anything but lots of good cars for sale. I have quit a few of 944s. I just al of a sudden realized tht my two 944 turbos were great cars but a little complicated even though I did my own work so I sold and got a 968. i still have 2 944 race cars and a really funky 924S special edition. These cars are great but cost a bit to get sorted. typically 2K for water pump front end engine and 2K clutch. make sure you get all the money you can.

I really appreciate the insight about the turbo/951. I'm def not gonna let them lowball me. I've had the na 944 for a while, this one being my second one and while I had It I enjoyed it but still wanted more power. I want to try another sports car but I don't wanna leave this forum, because I no longer own a Porsche. Do you think I should go for the 968 if I can locate one?

That's what I'll go for next. I've always wanted a 968 since they first came out. Maybe a 944S2 if I can't swing it. There was a nice one (S2) in the Classifieds down in Atanta. If I had $10K in my pocket, I would have gone and gotten it 2 weeks ago.

GEICO gave me 8,000 grand for my crashed 88' 944, but I had all of my receipts to prove I spent money on my car and it was not the average daily driver.

Forgot to mention, I brought it back from them for $400 so a lot of it I was able to salvage for my 87' 944 S car that I have now .

Bruce Anderson did an appraisal/evaluation for me back in 06 or so on a 914. The insurance company cut me a check for 7900.

An S2 is THE daily driver in the 944 world IMHO. This one is even an unusual color. I'd snag that in a heartbeat. I absolutely love mine, one of my all time favorite cars.
