1983 944 Headlight Switch
Over the last 25 years, three different 1983 944's have taken me over 500,000 miles. For the first time in those 25 years a headlight switch has broken. It is binding and stuck in the "On" position. Headlamp doors are up in the "On" position, but headlights do not operate. High beams will operate if you pull the turn signal stalk to the "flash" position but go back off when you release the stalk. I am assuming the switch has failed. Not sure why the "Flash" function operates. How do you remove the switch?

reach up under the dash where the headlight switch is and feel around...you will eventually feel 4 triangle shaped, ridged "clips" at the corners, you press down on the clips carefully and the switch will come out of the dash.
you can stick your head under the dash and see the switch from underneath, too. |
