the mystery of the disappearing smoke

About two weeks ago I was getting onto the highway in a hurry, and I was pushing 3rd gear to redline when I noticed some hesitation at around 5000 (i think) to about 6000. I took a look in the rearview and there was a HUGE cloud of smoke behind me that took up BOTH lanes of the highway. After returning the car to normal rpms and not driving hard it acted fine with no hesitation and no smoke whatsoever for the rest of the day. The following morning when I started it it smoked slightly and I could hear the enging misfiring until it warmed up.

The car has ran fine since then and hasn't smoked at all. Should I be concerned? I never heard of a car smoking once then never doing it again.

Mine would put a puff of smoke up when I floored it right after I bought it. Then after I gave it the abuse treatment it went away. As to your hesitation, I had the same problem as well. New plugs and wires fixed mine.
