exhaust system torque values : meaning of "+"

this is a "loose end' I've wanted to sort out for a while:

shop manual, vol 1, sec. 10, page 10-06 :

exhaust system: torque values - for example:

all other screws and nuts:

M6 8 + 2 (Nm)

question: what is the meaning of "+ 2" for the torque (in Nm)?

there's another page somewhere that has the same "+", but the idea is the same. It doesn't look like a torque angle - that'd be degrees. And when things are done in stages, it says so clearly with the word "1st stage" for example, with the oil pan bolts.

It is an allowable range. At least 8Nm but up to 10.

Typically ranges are there to allow for cotter pin alignment. On the exhaust, it may be allowing for drag torque of self locking nuts.

Run everything up to 8, let it settle, go back and increase to 10.

@Rasta interesting - that makes sense - I don't think I've seen such notation for anything else.

I agree with Rasta. Run it to 8 then rerun it to 10.

Those are normally listed as a "series" or "order" vs being listed as 8 + 2.
