Porsche Crest 951 fuel recomendation

Another thread, the door on my 951 says unleaded fuel only, I know about octane ratings, but what do you recommend?

These cars were made back when you could still get leaded fuel. That's why the sticker is still there. I've run 87 in my 944 for 24 years with no issues. The best thing besides running a higher octane would be to run non-ethanol fuel in it if possible. Especially if you don't plan on driving it often (as in daily driver).

Cheers,
Dave

Ethanol in modern gas does nothing to accelerate wear that wasn't already there, in a car that is driven regularly or semi frequently.

You should not have any original fuel hoses on your car at this age. New hoses are ethanol tolerant. Fuel pumps and injectors don't care.

The internet doesn't know what it's taking about...

Run 87. Conversions from the 91 in EU to US is around 87 especially when you factor in additional ethanol.. You are wasting money for more octane.

I can attest to you that ethanol is NOT good for any fuel system, period. Yes more modern vehicles are more "resistant" to the corrosion that ethanol can induce but ethanol is probably one of the poorest additives that could be possibly added to gasoline. Especially in older cars that are not used as daily drivers. If you've ever worked on smaller engines (bikes and such) you will know what I mean when that "green crap" (I mean that that literally) does to the inside of the carb.

IDFW carburetors so maybe you're right there.
But here in CA we have minimum 10% ethanol gas by law for a long time...a lot of the US does too.
Fuel hoses since the mid 80s have been designed with some ethanol content in mind...

The only thing I can see being a problem is the alcohol absorbing more water in an engine/tank that sits for a long time (like a boat, or maybe infrequently used yard equipment).

In a car that is driven every 2 weeks or more...no problem.

Back to the OP though, in a 951, run premium, don't worry about Euro vs US octane ratings...you need to run premium.
A regular 944NA can run for hundreds of years on US-87 octane, but a 951 will be down on power because of all the KR.

Fortunately here in VA, while we do have 10% ethanol gas, we have some stations that sell non-ethanol gas. After getting bitten more than once by that crap on my bike and other small engines, that is all I use in them anymore. Never have any problems out of them now.

When I use no-ethanol gas in my cars, the gas mileage does indeed go up a bit. Ethanol is a government subsidy racket that needs to be done away with.

Just a few pics of what Ethanol gas will do to a bike carb after sitting for just 3 months.

NOT my idea of going "green"...

Does anyone have information on the advantages of using 100+ octane racing fuel. A friend of mine uses it for winter storage. He says it does not break down. Also, are there advantages in performance or preventing some of the issues with ethanol based fuels.

I know nothing about it, but thought it would be worth mentioning. I would like to learn more.

I have a station close to me that sells 100 "active" octane. It is unleaded and a whopping 7.98 per gallon. Small fortune to fill up the 21.1 gallons for a 944!!!

No benefit, and why not just store with an empty tank?
