Oil Pump Differences?
The manual says to not use a late oil pump on an early engine as there are differences in the pump and crankcase. The early and late pumps look the same to me except the toothed gear in the late pump is missing three teeth.
Does anyone know what the differences are? Thanks

I have noticed the exact same thing, Jim. I think it might have to do with the profile of the teeth or something subtle like that.
I have (I think) an early pump if you need one...

I've read that the late pump has a higher flow rate.

Hey, Jim,
Measure the difference in thickness of the pump gear... You will see that the later pump gear is thicker, resulting in more oil flow at the same RPM. gb
