Talking I got Fuched!

And that's a good thing.

After years of drooling over my favorite 944 wheels, Fuchs, I finally broke down and got some. Actually I won an auction on eBay.

Yesterday, I drove to Austin (about 100 mi away) to pick them up from the seller. They were advertised as being 15x7 off of an 87 911 Carrera. Of course these wheels are the same size and offset as my Cookie Cutters.

I meet up with the seller and I immediately notice that they are not all 7" wheels. My first intinct was to assume that these are 2 15x7 and 2 15x6, knowing that 911s of the 70s and 80s commonly ran 6" wheels up front. I'm sure as hell not going to put 6" wheels in the front of my 944. Trying to keep my cool, I tell the seller that these wheels are not all 7" as described in the auction. I was really to walk on the deal if two of the wheels were 15x6s. We then flip the wheels over, and I look for the part # and sizing. Rubbing away through the brake dust reveals that the size on what I thought was a 6" wheel was actually a 7 J x 15! And the other two wider wheels turned out to be 8" wheels! Cool, I went expecting 15x7s and I end up with 15x7s and 15x8s. Oh yeah, they have painted center crests and they have the 911 parts number, so they are not replicas.

Today, I cleaned them up and waxed the center black paint. Then I bolted the Fuchs on and they look and fit perfect. The 8" wheels in the back look awesome.

what did you have to pay for the 15 inch Fuchs?

I have 16's on my 951 and love them -- I wonder how much the add to the value?

Ahh...Fuchs owners rejoice, another one has been converted!

15x8 certainly does look very nice indeed on the back of the car. Now if only I could get mine refinished, that would be perfect.

One thing, did any of the 944's come with fuch's? When I bought my 944 a year ago they came with fuchs and I hardly see any others with them, most with cookie cutter wheels. So I'm just wondering if they did.

I'm not knocking the Fuchs, but I know I want Fikse (even though they're $$$). I really want HRE's but they're far far far too $$$! I want 17X7 in the front and 17X9 in the back, but I'll probably just be stuck with my 15X 7 phone dials forever.

Yep, 15 inch Fuchs were optional '83-'86. Pretty pricey when new, that's why you won't see many of them. 16 inch Fuchs were also offered, as part of a sport suspension package. I'm not sure whether they could be purchased as a stand-alone option. Check the option code sticker in the back of your car to figure out if your Fuchs came with the car. Most likely they did.

Porsche Crest

Pics are comeing in a few days, I don't have a digital camera.

I got pulled over today on the way to work. 57 in a 50 zone. I knew I was going a couple mph over the speed limit but I surely didn't see 7 mph over on my speedo. I guess the 65 series rubber threw off the speedo a bit. I told the cop about the new wheels and tires and the possibility of the speedo being off. He agreed and told me that he was pulled over last week after he put bigger tires on his truck.

Needless to say, he wrote me a warning.

My car looks twice as good, although it probably isn't quite worth twice as much now.

I paid $560 for all. Original condition, never refinished, off an 87 Carrera. Painted crests, black center paint was a bit faded from brake heat but wax shined it up, no clearcoat damage to aluminum lip, a little curb rash on some of them. Overall they're an 8 out of 10. From 10', they're a 10.

They came with Pirelli P6s (used to have those tires on my Cookies a few years back). One of the tires was blown out. Owner "upgraded" replica 17" wheels, and sold the Fuchs.

Gotta like the Fuchs. My all time favorite factory Porsche wheels. Here is a shot of my car with red 16" Fuchs on it.

Thumbs up

Wow, nice car man. The red center really works with the car.
Also, I think that most non-porsche owners like fuchs also. When I was working at Jiffy Lube a chevy astro van came in with polished fuchs. My friends said "aren't those your rims?.. On a chevy??"
