one more question about nos

ok i know the subject of nos has been discussed many times, and i have decided that i want to get it. I'm thinking a 60 shot of nos will be perfect, and not cause any real damage. i have a 1987 944 na with under 36k miles and numerous ignition fuel and exhaust upgrades. what all would i need to run it safely? i know you can get many accessories for it, what should i get? any first hand experience would be greatly appreciated, like where to install the bottle and whatnot. thanks in advance.
brendan.

Make sure you do a compression check to make sure everything is fine. When you install the system, start with a smaller shot. I think that there are a couple of people on this board that have nitrous oxide.

Hey Brendan, I've got NOS on my 83 w/135000 miles and does perfect. I also run the 60 shot. Just make sure you get the throttle switch just right, only let the nos come on at full throttle. Also NEVER hit the nos while at idle (you know-while revving). The kit I bought was the NOS brand and it came with two jets,I have too many miles on the car for the bigger jet and so I never tried it and never will. Anyway the 60 shot is more than enough. Watch the wet roads, they WILL sneak up on you with the nos activated. All I can really say is follow the directions to a tee,and you won't have any problems and take your time,it took me about 3-4 hrs to do it all,but I am picky so......
P.S. I am running the Bosch + 4's in mine with the Jacobs igntion wires,MSDS air intake, accel coil, throttle cam, port matched intake,Oh amd make sure your timing belts are good. You have a hell of alot more goodies done to yours.
E-mail me if you have anymore questions and I will try to answer them, bigtruck76009@yahoo.com
Good luck

Hey Justin, don't you have to retard the timing when you have nos above a 30 shot? How did you do that on the 944. I heard the ignition is controlled by the dme.

I would go with the zex nos system. It goes off of fuel pressure. So you never run the engine lean. I beleive it is about 50-60 shot. It has a little smart computer that senses how much fuel is going in and adjusts the nos accordingly, plus it is the cheapest system out there! Ive heard great things about this system.....good luck

justin, thanks for the response. where did you mount your bottle, and do you use any accessories like bottle warmer or remote bottle opener or any of that?

roastin944-do you have a link to the zex nos system? thanks for the help

Brendan.

The best deal you will get is on ebay. You can get the whole kit with the bottle, lines, computer, EVERYTHING for like $475. Go to http://www.ebay.com Type in Zex nos. Good luck, please let me know how it goes if you use zex, because i might get a kit! Have fun

Brendan, - I mounted the bottle in the hatch area, pass. side on a piece of wood covered in carpet to match my interior. No I don't use a bottle warmer,or a remote bottle switch,I live in tx and the temps are pretty warm,I just leave the bottle open and turn the activation switch on when I want to use it.
Gus. - You kinda answered your own question, the dme controls the timing,so therefor it retards it's self when nos is used. The dme also adjusts the fuel for nos use,via O2 sensor, also the nos kit hooks into your fuel pressure regulator.
N.O.S. has been around for years and has done their homework,it is perfectly safe when used correctly.
Good Luck

How big of a bottle do you have and how long does it usually last before you have to refill it? I think that NOS might be a cool idea, just not if the bottle has to constantly be refilled.

Hey afx,I have the standard 10lbs bottle I usally have to fill the bottle about every 5-10th time I hit it,depends on how long I lay on it. I don't hit it untill 2nd gear and let off about the middle of 4th,sometimes longer. Sometimes in 1st,but 1st is so short,it's not really worth it,alot of tire spinning. I see your in Austin,if your ever up around the Ft Worth, area,I'm about 10 min. south in Burleson, drop me an e-mail.
Later
