83 944 Belt Noise?

So my 944 now has a loud belt squeak. I'm not sure which one because made sound when I'm moving. When I go to shift gear and hold the clutch it stops, but comes back the second I let off of it. The faster I go the louder it get. It will do it for the first few minutes of driving then disappears. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kyle

It's most likely your AC/Alternator belt. The other two are cog belts and will not squeak.

If you have changed any belts recently, you probably do not have enough tension on the belt. Use the factory tool to properly adjust all the belts on your 944.

I know some tricks for belts, a bar of dry soap on the belt, pulley side of course, you could also try some belt dressing, also check for oil on the belt, it could mean you have a oil leak.

Yeah the spec for that belt is "wicked tight" and IMO it worries me due to the potential for wear to the alternator and AC compressor bearings. There are kits to add an idler to the belt and get a tad more wrap at the alternator, which is helpful, but I do not think they add enough belt wrap to really address the issue.

You press the clutch and the noise goes away when shifting? That does not sound like a "belt" issue to me. Does the noise occur at idle?

Wow I just looked over the first post... Sorry for the grammar. Anyways when at idle and with the clutch in or out there is no sound. Even when I rev it. But if I put it in first and start to roll it starts to squeak. Will make the sound for about a mile and disappear. And yes the oil leaks are all over but non on the belt or ground... Just all over the bottom and engine ( I could make a whole post on the leaks lol!) If I can ill make a quick video. Thanks for the ideas/ replies.

Had a very similar problem with my 83 NA immediately after purchase six years ago. My car has the A/C compressor driven by the small serpentine type belt. That was where my noise was originating. One of the problems discovered was the front pivot bolt for the A/C compressor was missing, that was replaced by an original equipment part. I ended up tightening the belt to about ninety pounds tension measured in the middle of the longest open length. No noise. Also, use a good quality belt.
