Coolant puke question

Any thoughts on a coolant puking with the temperature still reading good via the temp guage?

Head gasket or coolant tank cap, generally.

Coolant cap has been the issue for me in the past.

yup, either of these will make it puke coolant without "overheating"

In my experience the coolant cap causes puking after shutdown but normal behavior when just driving around. A head gasket leak will constantly push coolant out of the system when running and eventual overheat.

This was sitting at idle for 15 minutes burning off the excess oil on the headers from the cam tower gasket change

+1 on coolant tank cap... Cheap enough to fix, or free to check the cap opening pressure with a loaner tool from Autozone.

I had a loose lower radiator hose clamp. Simple mistake I know... but something easily overlooked! It took me a while to realize why I was puking coolant when everything else seemed ok. Just Sayin' Andy.

When you say puke, do you mean:

A. The coolant looks a puke like colour?

or

B. Do you mean the coolant is puking (as in pumping or backing up) out of the coolant tank?

If it is B, then it could be a seized/seizing water pump

Ohhh. violent puking is not a good sign. Does it start as soon as you crank the engine?

Nope starts after fifteen minutes. I probably didn't bleed it well as I had the hose to the gooseneck off when doing the cam gasket job. Water pump is turning. after fifteen minutes the top hose was nice and hot and the thermostat hadn't opened yet. I have a butch of new thermostats so will let it cool off and swap in a new Tstat and rebleed.

I have what I think is a stuck thermostat based on the gauge reading, and it didn't loose a drop of coolant. In your case I wonder if there might be a clog between the coolant tank and the radiator? Is it bled properly?

Don't overfill... observe the MIN line when cold.

might be leaking compression into the coolant system.
