Strange factory seat config - anyone seen or have these?

Hi All –
I am trying to identify a set of seats.

I picked up a pair of stock manual 1978 924 seats at our local pic and pull for 60.00 (I want to replace the leather electric 993 seats that the PO put in my 1977 911). The foam is great, just some seam splits. The plan is to buy a set of leather re-upohlstery covers from a place like Lseat. However, these 924 seats are a bit different. They are absolutely 100% original fabric, and they are absolutely not sport seats. However, the bottom cushion/upohlstery is not stitched to the side bolster – there is a fully finished crease between the bolster and the bottom cushion, just like the bottom cushion of a sport seat.

Has anyone seen this before? I have been told many times that the 924/44 seats and the 911 seats were the same. This seems to prove otherwise.

Anyone have any info/thoughts?

Thanks -
Scott S

The completely finished/upholstered open seams are where the green lines are in the pic below...

I've made seat covers for a few of those seats. The place where you have a green line is supposed to be sewn together along with a "listing" underneath that holds a metal rod. Hog rings are crimped from the bottom of the frame to the metal rod in the listing which in turn holds the seat cover down. The standard seats are all this way for 74-95. The sport seats up to 84 are different as they have a separate cover for the bottom cushion and a separate cover for the bolsters.
I have a bunch of these seats in my garage. Most of them are ripped right where you have the green line.

Thanks Marco - that makes sense. Looking closer, yes, the bottom cushion has fabric down to the frame, but when I really pulled on the bolster, there is no fabric wrapping to the frame on the inside seam. Makes sense that they are sewn at the top as well.

Thanks Again -
Scott S
