Enamel paint care
I am trying to understand caring for the original Porsche enamel paint as I have several 944's and don't want to repaint. I have heard a few theories about enamel single stage paint that these cars have from the factory.
One has to do with colors and how hard the paint is and resistant to wear and abrasion (white is harder than black or red). Another is that enamel paint is porous and attracts dirt and needs to be sealed. Another is some paint care products will damage enamel by either drying out the oils with solvents, or removing a layer of paint with abrasives. Certainly Autozone or Advanced Auto has no idea how to properly care for these cars finishes. I used Autoglym (claims to be non abrasive) but I can't find it anymore. It works well on white but not on red. I am really interested in hearing how everyone is caring for the original paint. Last edited by djnolan; 04-20-2016 at 04:35 PM.. |

I use Eagle One Professional compound, polish and carnuba wax on my white 951 single-stage paint, my 2015 Avalon, and on the wife's 2014 Sienna, and the simplicity tractor.
Been doing the porsche with the above mentioned items without an issue for 4 years, paint looks great, no swirls, and car looks great with no discernable fatigue in the paint, no oxidation coming off on the buffing pads either. |
