Fuel filters tips, removal
Dear All
I want to change the fuel filter on the 944 (1986) and wanted to ask if anyone had tips. Curious to know if it would help to remove the rear, right side wheel to get better access thanks MJ in Beirut |

no but it is easier
loosing the fittings while it's still in the mount. then undo the mount before taking the hoses off. very easy

A day or so before you start this job, spray some PB Blaster or some other penetrating oil on the connections and let it soak. The fuel filter being located where it is a magnet for crud which will cause corrosion on the fittings. Letting the penetrating oil sit and do it's job for a day or so will make it a lot easier.

Can't I just use a torch to heat the fittings...?.

There's a thought, but probably not a very good idea!

Maybe dumb question but doesn't gas drain out everywhere when you disconnect the fuel line or is the pressure held back?

When it comes time to do the job you can use our fuel filter guide HERE for some help. Figure 2 goes over some info on how to get some of the fuel out of the lines before the removal of it.

Yes, it will be pressurized. But just keep a drain pan handy and crack the fitting open just a little to let the pressure bleed off and catch the gas in a pan. Regardless of how you do it, it's messy..

You can also start the car, then pull the fuel pump fuse and let it run
until it stalls to relieve some of the fuel line pressure. |

Reverse steps
I pull the fuel pump fuse first, then crank the engine. Less fireworks.
