Is this a "normal' 944 speedo?
I pulled my speedo out to fix the standard 944 non-functioning odometer. It turns out the gear had slipped down the shaft and wasn't meshing properly with the worm gear. I moved it back and glued it, and now it works perfectly.
Now, maybe I am wrong as I am no expert, but I was under the impression that these gears have either 11 or 17 teeth, but mine has ten. Or am I looking at the wrong gear (at the top of the photo) ? ![]() |

Can't speak to the number of teeth, but that's the right gear. I had the same 'slipping' problem with my odometer, but after gluing it, the shaft itself still had enough play in it to lose the mesh even with the gear fastened in place. I'm about at my wit's end trying to get it working- Right now, it'll work perfectly, provided the outside temperature is below about 35 degrees.
Who needs an odometer when it's warm, anyhow? |

maybe because your gear is "metric"?

That could be it, but when I was looking to find a new one, I couldn't see a ten tooth one anywhere...
