Another one brought back to life...

Well, after a year and a few minor set backs with the seized water pump and busted oil cooler element, she's moving under her own power again.

Just a note: ONLY use the PORSCHE MADE Oil Cooler Alignment Tool as most of the plastic repros are just a tad small. I'm not sure if the OPRV wasn't aligned or the element that I fixed (a small hole filled with JB Weld) was just starting to come apart or what but I had to get another oil cooler element because when I pulled it back out, the JB Weld was unscathed but it had developed another hole somewhere that wasn't there when I repaired the first time. Still having to do it twice wasn't fun but I definitely learned a lot about the s models on this thing. Anyway, I've got coolant flush and water in it now. Going to run it through a couple of heat cycles this weekend and flush it all out as there is still a little oil residue in the water jacket. The oil also had a little water in it as it's got just a hint of that wonderful brown going on the dipstick.

I put about a quarter can of Sea Foam in the oil to help clean everything out. I have a little excessive valve train noise that seems to be going away now. Still thinking about pulling the valve cover to check things though. I had it running for about a total of 10 minutes in two sessions and moved it to the current spot in the picture on the last one. I had to steal the bleeder on the waterneck to get the red one going a couple of weeks ago. I'll be making me one from an appropriate bolt this coming week.

Going down to the Charlotte NC area to pick up another project. Sheesh, I'm going to have a whole stable of 944s..

Not sure it applies but
The SM says to wash the coolant channels with detergent - sorry don't have a link now, take a look - oil/coolant mixing.

I did that with a water hose and Castrol Super Clean when I had the oil cooler off both times. Still running some Prestone Flush with straight water to get anything else..
