Should I powdercoat or not????

I saw this camshaft housing for sale on ebay (see link below) and I thought I might do the same for our housing. Since we're replacing the belts and waterpump, would it be a PITA to go ahead and remove the housing and re-install?
Would I have to remove the cam and replace the bearings?????

I dont think you have to replace the bearing as long as you dont scratch or gouge them. It shouldnt be that bad removing it. I think the housing is BEAUTIFUL!!! Powder coating is expensive? When I get my 951 I really really want to paint the cam housing, cam gear housing and the manifold red to match the car. I think that would look SWEEEEEET!!! GOD, can't wait.

For me the most expensive item would be the powder itself. I have a powdercoater and an oven. I'm more concerned about time and/or goofing up something and can't get it back together. I'm wondering how much additional time it will take to remove and re-install the housing when I replace the water pump and belts.

Well, that really depends on you. For even asking a question like this, I'm going to assume that you never did this before? All, I have to say is that it's not that bad. As long as you take your time, you'll be fine. Just make sure you know what your doing before you do it. NO EXPERIMENTING. If you dont know how to remove something, either read about it or come here and ask. I can't say how long it would take. Dont rush.

Gt350 -

The housing comes apart real easy.....

I had trouble with the one bolt that goes into the camshaft. Welllll actually I stripped it and had to drill it out. The camshaft slides right out of the housing. There are no bearings (the housing is the bearing for the camshaft).

After that it all comes apart and goes backtogether real easy. Just replace the seals that are in the housing (cheap).

If I had the equipment. I would do it, even if it was to paint it silver and just freshen it up.

I coated the intake and valve covers on my V-8 and it turned out great. I used a near-chrome as the base coat and used a semi-gloss clear which toned down the chrome look to an aluminum look.

Here is a pic of the intake and covers on the V-8.

As the old saying goes "Good things are worth waiting for" and that motor spent 6 months at the machine shop. W/out a doubt, it was worth every day because the car is a blast to drive. I set-up the car to road race, but I need to learn how to handle the extra hp (compared to the last motor) before I can race it.

Its a Canton 9 qt wet sump. For monetary reasons, I'll be using dino oil instead of synthetic.
