A/C hode replacement

Sorry for the typo in the subject. I meant hose, not hode.

Anyway, I've got a leak in the hose that goes from the compressor to the condenser. I see that I can get the hose here from Pelican. How difficult is that to replace? Will I need to remove the compressor? This is on a 1990 S2.

No, you won't have to remove the compressor. Just the batwing and the under engine cover.
You will need two large metric wrenches for the nut at the condensor. One to hold the nut on the condensor, and one to loosen the hose nut.

Make sure the system is empty of refrigerant. You will need to have it evacuated and refilled.
If it is an R12 system this is the right time to upgrade to R-134a.

That hose is the most stressed one in the system; it operates at high temperature and high pressure.

Get a good hose:

Thanks for the info. Is that hose better than this one?

I'd rather pay a few more dollars and get it from Pelican.

You have to edit that title, I skipped it.

I can't dig up the links now, look at some of my recent posts, I did this on an 87 NA.

Thanks but it won't let me edit the title. Is there a way to do that?

Bukowski 08-01-2016 04:09 AM

I tried too on my own posts - never really figured it out!

Pelican sells the Griffith part. Subscript on the part number.

... that's an '87 944 NA.

HTH.

Thanks!

I have 110% trust in the Griffiths hose.

It's not a cheap hose, very good quality, better than OEM.

mattdavis11 08-02-2016 01:50 PM

Have it rebuilt. I did, for less than $30.

Pauld_94S2 08-02-2016 05:40 PM

Went down the rebuilt hose road. It developed a small leak at the fitting at the condensor end; enough to make the leak detector go nuts.

However, rebuilt is OK if you can find the right hose and the crimp work is perfect.
