performace modifications ?'s
I have a 1987 924s with the 88 engine And after commpleting all the intial restoration i'd like to know what type of performance mods there are out there. I like to spend around 1 to three 3k. Also anyone have any price for new alloy wheels.

How much do you weigh? Best mod for a 924s/944 is reducing weight. Driver diets seem to be very effective.

Best performance mod is a good driving school. Nothing else comes close for any amount of money.

I am thinking of changing the stock air intack and filter with a unit that have a better valiumetric efficency, any ideas
also i am thinking of putting in a new exaust system |
You could do a new intake, exhaust, chip, cam, headers, ignition... those will help a little bit but nothing will be all that amazing. Since you said you were looking at spending up to 3K, you should look into a supercharger, that would give you quite a bit more power. Also like Scott R said, weight reduction. One of the better/cheaper ways to make the N/A's faster is by remving ad much weight as possible.

I looked at your profile and saw that you are only 15, what driving school did you go to? Save your money for now, then get a Turbo. How much is your insurance going to cost when you get your license in February.

Ok, since you're 15 you should be learning how to drive, not building an ungodly fast car. A 924S is PLENTY quick for a first car, so basically I would advise you to LEARN HOW TO DRIVE IT GOOD! Practice launching, practice shifting, practice cornering (start slow and work your way up). When your out messing around, don't stay in one area very long (people like to call the cops). Try going to empty parking lots to learn, NOT MAJOR ROADS! Sooner or later you'll figure out how the car drives and you will get bored with it, that's when it's time to mod it (but make sure you can handle the car first). Personally, I would spend money on a good stickey set of tires before anything. You can do basic bolt-ons to the engine, but from my understanding is that the engine is pretty much tapped (as in you won't see any big gains). If your looking to spend some serious money on the engine bay I would reccomend a supercharger. Here's a few site for ya to check out.

oh I forgot to mention when you start changing these engines they can become unreliable. If you can afford to keep the car properly maintained then do what you want, it doesn't do any good to have a supercharged 924 with grooves in the pistons from where they collided with the valves.

First off, keep a few things in mind:
924S/944 was not built to be, nor will it ever be a drag racer. Throwing tons of money at it will not change this. 80's technology versus new improved technology can only help somewhat - there are still inherant limitations to the engine itself 951 - arguably, you can get it to preform well in the 1/4 mile without spending a small fortune. Learn how to drive, then learn how to drive a Porsche. Secondly, are you prepared to maintain the required maintenance for the car? repairs for one of these cars needing "a little work" can easily start at $500 and go up from there. Good advice...I don't think these are good stop light to stop light racers...So if thats what you want, you might be wise to get something else. These cars are best out where they can eat up large sweeping corners...Handling is its best suit! Good luck!

I have been working in a porsche shop for 2 years part time non paid up to the past four mounths. But being that they have limited performance modification experience polling outher porche owners who have modified there cars seams to be a good idea. Beyond that what is the expense of a super charger and what types of results should i see

I have tried almost everything short of a supercharger on my 87 944na. All of the above advice is totally correct. The small changes that these "bolt on" mods make are almost always not worth the price I paid. I have found that the money is much more wisely spent on good tires and suspension upgrades.
I have been driving my 944 hard for years (auto-x, track days, rennegade hill climbs) and find myself still getting out driven by other drivers in similar cars. This means the car still can go faster. It is truly amazing how much potential is in these cars. Just when I think it is impossible to go any faster through a corner, somebody shows me differently.
