How Do I Remove The Window Track?

Hey,

I'm in hour 254 of trying to fix my door handle, and I'm going to resort to murder soon.

Specifically, I'm trying to get my outer door handle clipped onto the latch mechanism, and I've concluded that others are right; the only way I can do that is by removing the lower window track to give myself some space. Question is: how do I remove it? I took out a lower bolt (8mm, I think) and started wiggling it; the track turns easily about 10 to 15 degrees, but it won't actually come "down and out" like I've read it should.

Is there an upper bolt retaining it somewhere? Were that bolt in, would I still be able to rotate the whole piece with ease like I've been doing? And if there is, how, precisely, do I get to it?

TIA

If I understand

.. Well, I can't recall!

There's the bolts, the rollers in the regulator work out...

I DO recall installing a door handle from outside - it sucked.

... Do les the window glass need to be duct taped in the up position?

The upper retaining bolt is VERY hard to see. It is right near the top of the channel IN the channel. It screws in straight backward in relation with the door. The mounting tab for mine is broken and the track is not attached on the top. Since it sort of wedged in there and can't move when the window is installed, it doesn't affect the operation of the window at all. So I never welded the stupid mounting tab back on.

Not to hijack but what's the most common cause of the window electric motor not working? This is the right side window on an 87 s.

Not to hijack back , but I did finally get the outer door handle clipped onto the latching mechanism. I removed the lower track bolt, as I said, and swiveled the track just far enough out of the way that I could see/work.

Man, what a bear though. The plastic ball cup for the handle lock was comparatively easy; the one for the latch trigger took all my might. The funny thing is: the only reason I had to take off the handle was to drop the latching mechanism further down in the door so I could install the c-clip that retains the interior handle cable. I tried for some time to do it blindly up into the door with everything still installed, but I've concluded it's impossible.

If I ever have to take that off again... Well, I might pay someone.

djnolan: Hopefully someone else can help you.
