Porsche Crest Bunches of questions

Hey guys, I've had a hard time finding certain information. what is the block and cylinder head is made out of? How much torque does an 87 944 n/a have? Are the gears the same in a 944 and a 951? If I go with a super charger, how long will my engine hold with 8 psi? I know I have more, I just can't think of them right now.

The engine is all aluminum. The gear ratios are different in a 951 trans and it is also beefed up a bit to handle the extra power. Don't know about the rest of your questions, but I am sure some one else can answer them.

at 8 psi.... it will start falling apart right away. You could make 5 psi manageable but at 8 psi with the stock compression it just doesn't work well........ detonation is the biggest problem.

torque runs about 130 to 150.... the torque is not that great but the torque curve is wide across the rpms

Do you know the Torque for an 87 n/a? What are the gear ratios in the 951 tranny and the 944 tranny? Do you know the front sway bar diameter for the 944 and the 951? How about the rear diameter for the 951?

Does anybody know the gear ratios of a 951 tranny and a 944 tranny? I have a 951 tranny and I might be putting my ring gear and pinion in it before I put it in the car if it's geared much longer.

You can go to 8 psi but you have to properly retard the ignition.

For the gear ratios, see if you can find someone with an original owners manual, I think they may be listed side by side for both cars

944 944T

!st 3.600:1 3.500:1
2nd 2.125:1 2.059:1
3rd 1.458:1 1.400:1
4th 1.071:1 1.034:1
5th 0.829:1 0.829:1

axle ratio 3.889:1 3.375:1

87 944 n/a hp: 158 torque: 155

Compression ratio is 10.2:1

Stabilizers: Diameter- front:21.5mm(optional 25.5 x 4) Turbo 22.5 or 24 x 3.7
Rear: 18mm (optional), Turbo: 18mm

Due to the higher compression ratio I don't think it would be safe to run more than 4-5psi w/out intercooling or lowering compression.

I would not swap gearing with a turbo, you already run out of engine before you do gear with the stock tranny.

Hope this helps =)

When I say you can go to 8 psi that is intercooled and retarding ignition

Skip the 8PSI solution. Like the above post just step up to the 951. Why spend thousands to get to 8 when you can spend thousands to get to 25!

Ditto, sell your 944 for $5k, take the $3k that you will spend on the SuperCharger and buy my 88 951 =)

I tell you, it's not just the turbo, they are completely different animals(the 944 & 951).

Drive a 951 for a weekend and you will not believe it. I spent in excess of $10k in mods on my 944, then a friend let me drive his 951 for awhile........I was pi$$ed! I HAD to go buy a 951 then. They are truly amazing machines.

The only reason I'm swaping trannies is because I grenaded my stock tranny. However, the only thing damaged is the carrier, should I put the final drive out of my original tranny in the new one? Yeah, I know that the 944 and 951 aren't much a like. The reason I've decided to keep my 944 is because
A: I already have it
B: I will never save the money to get a 951 (for some reason I'm determined to build the 944 as I have the funds)
C: I plan on swaping the 951 motor into the 944 I have, if I don't go super (the supercharger kit is intercooled) (YES, I have been reading up on what has to be done to swap the 951 motor in)
D: 951 is more expensive insurence (I'm a 16 y/o)
E: Suspension will all be raplaced because the car does not have enough oversteer for me (it's a drift car)
F: Brakes will be replaced because brakes are my favorite thing in the world!
**I have not decided completely on what to do, I keep toying with different ideas (keeping my 944 as a daily and buy a 951, keep my 944 through college and then get something different, get away from Porsches and buy a car that was actually ment to be drifted etc.) Please advise me on what to do, something tells me I have way overthought this and I'm just making my life more difficult.

oops, I forgot a question, can I put the turbo transaxle's carrier (it's a non LSD) in my stock transaxle?
