Can a new style speedo drive be installed in an early transmission?

Transmission gurus,
Can the speedo drive sensor from a late style transmission be installed in an early transmission? There is a hole there with some kind of plug recessed in it. It looks like the plug would need to be removed and then possibly the hole would need to be tapped and then the transmitter would fit.
The question is if it is possible to put it in and the even bigger question is if it would work once it is installed.

I recall you also need the trigger wheel in the transmission. Not worth it. It'd be easier to run a pulse converter between an ABS sensor and the speedo, assuming you had ABS, or a GPS based system if someone makes a kit that outputs the right signal.

I received an email from Kevin Gross. He laid out what I can do which is installing the plastic trigger wheel by removing the output flange and oil seal, and then pressing the trigger wheel onto the output shaft, and then installing the sensor with the aluminum bushing and pinion gear.
He has the parts on the shelf so I may go that route.

My car has ABS so a pulse converter could work as another option.
I'll do some searches here and on google to see what is involved with a pulse converter but any additional info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

(I want to give a shout out to Kevin Gross. This community is a much better place because we have guys like him who have a huge amount of knowledge and experience and are willing to share the info here and via email, etc. I have pestered Kevin with numerous questions over several years and he always takes the time to answer them with plenty of detail. I appreciate his info and help more than he knows)

Alternatively you could use the Lindsey Racing 968 speedo kit to get your speedo signal.

I put the early trans in the car and it whines more than a hillary supporter on election night.

You know that sound when kids put playing cards on their bikes to make the clicking noise in the spokes of the wheel. That is what this transmission sounds like if a kid used a really loud metal playing card.

You put an early NA trans in your S2?

And yeah mine whines too (85.5 trans in 83) when I engine brake, quiet everywhere else. Mobil Delvac fluid. I'd liken the whining to a male feminist. Sort of a buzzsaw sound.

It's a very temporary fix while my AOR is being rebuilt. The first work project I have in my home town since 2003 and it has to be when my transmission is a bunch of parts sitting in a box.

It has progressed way beyond a "whine". It now sounds like a machine gun. I have a lindsey 3" exhaust with a magnaflow muffler on my car. When I am on the freeway, my exhaust is only about 60-70% as loud as the racket from the transmission.
