Take the RMS to Home Depot, and match it up with a PVC pipe cap of the same outside diameter. Search the forum, there is a posting for an RMS install tool made from one. Or, you can always do it the old school and equally reliable way, remove the old RMS, set the new RMS in place, put the old seal on top of it (outside of seal to outside of seal....that's the side with the part number on it) and lightly tap around the old seal until the new one seats. That's how I install them..no leaks

Thanks guys. I work on a lot of cars so it may be worth the money. Just a little thin here at the end of summer.

How hard is it to get to the RMS? I'm getting ready to do all front seals and time belt and balance shaft belt and I know the FMS is a pain in the ass to get to. Was just wondering if its the same with the rear and if I should do it at the same time.

It's similar to a clutch job

I have the factory RMS tool i rent / loan out if anyone is interested. Original poster already contacted me about it, this offer is open to anyone. Tool is currently in PA, but pretty sure they are done with it.
RMS install tool P234 rental offer RMS replacement is a clutch job.. basically the last diassembly step and the first step in reassembly. The PVC method and using the old seal method all work, but this is the fool proof way.

Just as easy as a clutch job.

Once the flywheel is pulled, drill a small hole in the seal (being careful not to touch the outer portion where it touches the flywheel or the crankshaft). Take a sheetrock screw and screw it into the bearing and pull the bearing out with a pair of pliers. I installed my seal with a PVC fitting. Remember to oil the inner part of the seal before you reinstall it or it will scorch it.

to extract the sealfile down 16mm dowel to 15mm so its slip fit into central hole of rms, then stuff hole with plasticine.hammer dowel into hole and out will pop the bearing.

Bumpity bump. Anyone have a P234 tool they want to sell, second hand? Not interested in a DIY tool after doing research on success rates.

Use the old rms to seat the new rms. Been doing it for years. No issues. Clean the bore with 600-800 grit sand paper.
