931 Header Panel Install Question

Hello! This question is for anyone that has installed a 924 Turbo header panel (Nose panel) on a 944 or 924S.....

Did you have to cut any of the car's existing bodywork to make this fit? I removed the existed header panel from my 924S last night, and upon installing the factory 924 Turbo piece it would not fit in place. There are 2 (What I would call uprights supports that are blocking the new panel from dropping in place. Looks like I need to cut a bit back in order to get things to fit.

I will try to post a pic later today.

Thanks!

I think there are 3 solutions. You could notch the upright bits, unweld and bend them (as in the pic below), or remove them and use 931 pieces, which have a scooped shape to gather air from the outermost vents.

There are 3 issues that you have to address when fitting a 931 header panel to a later car. Item 1 you need to do, items 2 & 3 are optional.

1. The two outermost lugs through the outer vents will hit the uprights on either side, so you need to cut out part of the uprights or bend as Rasta suggested.

2. The 4 top mounting points will need to be notched on the 931 panel to fit flush. Though you can get a reasonable fit without doing this by using washers to shim the mounting bolts, depends how "perfect" you want it.

3. The 4 lower mounting points through the headlight openings will need studs welded in place to secure to the later body. You can not bother and get by with just the 2 outermost bolts through the fenders.

WOW!

Thank you for the quick and thorough responses. I searched and could not find any of this information. Everything I found was questions/answers about fitting the panel to a 951.

I was aware that there would be some hurdles, but it is so valuable to get this information from someone who has "Been There, Done That"

Thanks again....this forum is awesome.

If anyone else has insight or advise on this project, post it here.
