Im sorry but I can not find a body color tag or sticker of any kind on my 1986 NA

Maybe I am not looking in right spots, but can you tell color by Vin number?

The body color is not encoded in the VIN number. But Flash is right that the color sticker is close by AND the build sticker located on the inside of the rear panel behind the carpet just above the spare tire will have the paint code, engine code, trans code, and all the options that the car was built with.

Your local Porsche dealer should be able to give you the paint code from the vin

It's not encoded but a Porsche dealership can tell you the color from the VIN. They can also tell you all the options just from the VIN and will sell you a certificate with the information on it if you want.

And you can also find the same build sticker on page 1 of your original maintenance manual. It will have the paint code listed.

IF the original owners manual is still in the car. LOL. Some people manage to lose these things from some reason. I have had 5 Porsches and only ONE had the original owners manual still in the glove box. And that was the first one I ever bought 25 years ago next month.

I'm on my 6th 968 and they've all had them. Great source of info. Tells you the delivery dealer, first owner, and service history. I just picked up a 92 project a few weeks ago and the maintenance manual told me it was delivered new in Texas and lived there for 11 years. The original dealer, autobahn Euro is still open.

i too have come across a lot of cars that don't have the owner's manuals. i can't count how many guys on 968forums have said they didn't have theirs either. pretty common to be missing. most people i know don't keep them in the car either. once you learn how everything works, it just takes up valuable space in the glove box.
