Headers question

Dear All, my 951 1986 with 75K miles headers are leaking as per my mechanic so i was wondering what were my option and what really was the issue if it is minor leaks.

My understanding is that i am loosing some power... and it smell bad in the car?

Sorry for my ignorance.

On my NA car my factory headers were badly cracked. I have read that this is not uncommon. I intend to weld them up before reinstall. Not sure if the turbo suffers the same but certainly a place to look.

well, you could cut out the bellows and fit a new expansion joint...
cut out the bellows and fit a "slip coupler"...
or try these out... :)

Hi Both, thanks for the answers, but since I am not that handy I am not sure I could do this... What do you guys think about going with a used part? and getting it install, knowing that I do not track my car and just use it as a daily driver.

Thanks

New gaskets? You might try stage 8 fasteners, I'm not sure if they make them for the 951? but you could look into it with a new set of gaskets.....also check for oil leaks at the cam box. Mine was dripping on the exaust and it stank up the cockpit also......

Ask your mechanic to show you where the leak is and post some pictures.

Hi Tom, my mechanics told me that it was at the bottom of them...where they connect to the exhaust not at the top where they connect to the engine

I have no expertise on the 951, but if it was mine I would try and identify if the leak was just the gasket/joint or the actual header itself.

Tom, you are probably right but I am not mechanically inclined enough to do so...

Could be as simple as two new gaskets where the headers join crossover.
