Porsche Crest MAF on an 85.5 NA

Hi all,

So I have been working on a MAF system, grabbed it from a Ford ranger, manufacturer is Hella. Running a A/F gauge and everything is on the level.
Been running the set up for nearly 5k miles with no issues.
Top end power output is up and MPG is up by 3.
I have had it in two set ups, one with the stock air box the other with a cone filter.
no real difference between in running, but you can hear a lot more of the induction noise.

My next will be installing a wideband O-2 with a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and having a DME chip set up.

It is inconceivable that any hp gains you see at one point will relate across the full power range or that any mpg improvements will not be from running lean. Curious about how you tuned this.

How did you match the AFM outputs at various temperatures to the output the DME sees from that MAF?

How did you reprogram the DME chip to handle the new readings it sees?

Not saying it cannot be done as it definitely has been done before. It's just that generalizing and saying it works without issue and with the gains you quote is not the same as testing and making sure it is actually emulating everything correctly.

I totally understand what you are saying, that is why it's not 100% compete. I greatly enjoy exploring options that are out there for possible upgrades for the NA. So for now I will keep working on this so it is 100% effective and can be used to its fullest.

I dimly recall this having been tried before and I think it sorta worked for a narrow range of operational parameters, probably relying heavily on the fuel trims. It'd be interesting to see how it worked with the O2 sensor disconnected and with a wideband in place. Even some od the chip-based 951 MAF conversions from 5-10 years ago struggled with hot and humid summer days as I recall.
