Erratic Speedometer
 

The speedometer on my '86 944 has been acting up during cold days this winter. A number of times when the temperature has been in the 30's it has stopped working completely only to work fine on warmer days. Weird, right?

I'm thinking that a plug connector is contracting and expanding as the temperature varies.

Any ideas??

check the speedo sensor that is on the gearbox. check for cracks or torn wiring. you can also change the fluid in the gearbox if it has not been changed for a while, that can effect speedo readings since the speedo is driven from the diff. my 951 did the same thing, I changed the fluid and it has not acted up since, even in 20 or below. worth a shot, hope this helps out.

Thanks for the advice. The gearbox oil was changed this past summer but I will follow your other suggestions as soon as it warms up a bit!!
