will a 924s transmission work in an 83 944

Looking to buy an 83 944 that occasional grinds 2nd gear when up shifting and always grinds 2nd gear on down shifts.

There is minimal play in the shifter so I am assuming the problem is in the trans?

If that's the case will a 1987 924s trans work in an 83 944 without any modifications?

If so are they geared any differently?

Thanks in advance
Rob

They changed the internals from the 924 to the 944, as far as the trannys mating up, give it a shot.

I had to put 2nd gear cog in mine many moons ago. It was pretty easy. For me anyway.. Damned thing would grind almost every time. I even stopped using 2nd gear if I could help it.

Yes the 924S transmission will work in the early car AS LONG AS the 924S transmission has the bolt holes for the early 944 transmission mounts which it should.

The 5th gear ratio may be different but it's not a big deal.

Kings911, where are you located? I have two good early transmissions here in LA.

It fits and does have the mounting points for the Transmission mounts. I have a few choices of 944 Transmissions in stock including one from 924S. Send me an email if interested. I am in Maryland and shipping is not bad at all.
