$61,500
Asking price for a 1986 944T with 9720 original miles. Several others in the 20's and 30's then lots in the teens. Many very nice cars. Supports my thoughts that the 944 market is rising. Turbo prices are almost going crazy. When the question gets asked if some cheap 944 is worth saving it is worthwhile to look at the current market. Lots of cheap 911's were thrown out before they all of a sudden took off. Buy up anything that you want now because you will watch prices rise.

I for one DON'T want their values to go nuts.
It will just encourage the "parts" folks to hike their prices up, IMO, which hurts those of us who just want to drive the f***in' things rather than look at them (stupidly) like an investment. |

There was a super-low-mile 951 for sale a few years back but it obviously had the wrong speedo for the model year. I'd want lots of documentation.

I'm not into buying cars to store rather than drive, cannot see the point and at under 10k miles for an 1986 944T that car has sat around a lot. Really what a waste if that is the case, however I will take any bet that disproves that all the odometer readings were not correct on every one of the 944's I have owned over the years, and probably everyone on the road today. My first one was bought new in 86, the odometer went out within 5k miles and I didn't get around to having it fixed until almost 25k miles. It was still under warranty and the Porsche dealer simply fitted a new odometer with zero miles, no record in Carfax or anywhere. So I am suspicious of high-priced, low mileage 944's, buyer beware!

I bought my 911 at just about the bottom of that market and it appears that I also bought my 944 at what I think will prove to be the bottom of this market. Just dumb luck on my part. The 911 is a driver and I intend the same for the 944 when done. The value is simply academic as I'm not selling. As I told my wife if I can't drive it then I don't have room to store it.

i have no problem with the rising prices. my hope is that these cars become extremely expensive, so that we see an end to rubber band and bubble gum repairs. as with all collectible cars, as the cost to own them goes up, the dilapidated cars are eliminated, and the condition of the remaining cars improves. one of the things that hurts this car the most is the owners who refuse to spend money on them. i've watched this over the years with countless cars of all makes. in the end, the story is always the same. attrition results in the remaining cars being in better shape, and the tired ones sent to the scrap heap. what is left is collectible and worth a lot more. that is never a bad thing.

If you ever watch antique roadshow you will realize that insurance value is about twice what it is really worth, the "retail value" if you sell it. There is also a "dealer value" or wholesale which is about half as much again.

Neither good nor bad but something to be aware of. I agree with flash968 that maybe this will see the end of bubble gum repairs that I have read about and made me cringe. |

I'm with v2rocket_aka944. Some value increase wouldn't be bad, but I'd rather these cars remained undervalued. I wouldn't have had the guts to own and drive four of them, or wrench on them myself, if they'd actually been collectible.
I don't want my 951 to be so valuable that it's unapproachable. ![]()

lol - nobody wants their car to be pricey.............. until it comes time to sell it. then they all want it to be worth a fortune.
